The Update and Check-In process builds on the Compliance Self-Assessment previously completed by departments and units across UBC.

This process is not a repeat of the original self-assessment.

Instead, it is a lightweight, focused follow-up that provides an opportunity for selected units to review areas identified for improvement, share updates on the progress made toward addressing them, and identify any changes to the IT environment since the original assessment.

The process focuses on key information security controls where further action may be required. Administrative Heads of Unit will receive a summary of the applicable areas and will be asked to confirm their current status including actions completed, work underway, or any outstanding challenges.

Units will also be asked to identify any significant changes to their IT environment, for example addition or decommissioning of servers, changes to their IT support model, or onboarding of new SaaS solutions.

Through this process, the Compliance Support Program aims to:

Recognize progress made and changes since the original assessment

Provide greater visibility into the current state of information security practices

Support units in understanding and addressing outstanding requirements

Inform broader institutional planning, support, and risk-management priorities

The Update and Check-In is intended to be lightweight. Units may wish to consult their IT representatives and other relevant stakeholders to help confirm the current status of technical items and the CSP team will be available to provide clarification and guidance throughout the process.
